ACMI, Federation Square. Melbourne, VIC

The Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) at Federation Square is a unique screen based institution that celebrates, promotes and publicly exhibits the moving image in all its forms including film, television and digital culture.

As project manager with CMR Consultants, Ben worked within a diverse team to manage the design and integrated fitout of the purpose built ACMI. The role required close collaboration with the clients operational departments, the principle architectural design team, specialist engineers and contractors, digital artists and exhibitors, technological hardware suppliers and principal contractors.

Critical to its success, the project required the complex integration of;

  • base building architectural design;

  • base building structural and services engineering;

  • specialist screen based and digital content systems engineering;

  • digital artwork installations;

  • screen based exhibition space design and fitout;

  • large format cinema design and fitout, including THX certification; and

  • operational support, commercial retail, and corporate office fitout.

Since opening its doors in 2002, the ACMI continues to operate as a major cultural, tourism and learning attraction, and has established itself as an integral element in one of the world’s truly creative cities.
